Former Assemblyman sustains gunshot wounds in Highway robbery on Asankragwa-Kwabeng road

Correspondence from Western Region:

Former assembly member of Kwabeng Electoral Area in the Wassa Amenfi Central Municipality in the Western Region has sustained gunshot wounds after being attacked by armed robbers.

The incident happened when Mr Martin Luther Adjei was travelling from Asankragwaa to Kwabeng on Friday night.

Speaking to Ghanaweb, he explained that he saw the robbers while he was ascending a hill on his motorbike in the middle of the road and decided to run but he was unfortunately seen by the robbers who shot him in the thigh.

Mr Luther Adjei noted that the robbers had blocked the road with a Kia Rhino truck and a tricycle creating an ‘artificial accident’ few meters from where he was shot.

Passengers who had been robbed were seen lying on the road after being robbed of their cash and other belongings.

According to him, he was dragged about a hundred meters from where he was shot to where the other robbery victims were kept.

He said about four cars were robbed after he was shot, however, they could not rob the fifth car because the driver managed to sail through after several shots from the robbers.

This gave the robbers some fears that the driver could report the incident to the police which could cause their arrest. This made the robbers fled and the victims’ lives were saved.

He was rushed to the Asankragwa Catholic Hospital for treatment where he was operated upon to remove the bullets on Friday night and was discharged on Saturday.

Mr Luther Adjei disclosed that over GHC700 and his phone were taken from him by the robbers.

Nana Agradaa arrested, Thunder TV shut down Hmm Asem Aba Ghana Again Hehe😆😆

A joint team of Police and National Security Intelligence Operatives, in collaboration with the National Communications Authority, stormed the premises of two satellite television stations, namely, Thunder TV and Ice1 TV, who were illegally transmitting without licenses, at Kasoa in the Central Region, yesterday.

The team, according to the Minister of Communications, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, arrested the offenders among which included the owner of Thunder TV, Patience Asiedua, popularly known as Nana Agradaa, and seized two (2) pieces of equipment each used in the illegal transmission from both premises.

Nana Agradaa is noted for advertising her ‘Sika Gari’ on her TV station, which she claims is her personal god that multiplies money with some rituals she makes. She has hence admitted to this illegality and is currently in custody assisting with further investigations.

“The influx of unregulated television stations on air has led to the promotion of certain content which may affect public order, public morality, and the rights and reputation of others.

As such, efforts are underway to rid the system of this canker and reduce overcrowding on Ghana’s airwaves,” she wrote.

This comes after discussions on the need to sanitise the media landscape gained current following the killing of a ten-year-old boy by two teenagers.

The teenagers claimed they were influenced by watching a traditional priest on television to kill the boy for rituals.

Kuami Eugene reacts to KiDi’s comment on his ‘poor’ communication skills

Highlife musician Kuami Eugene has reacted to a claim by his fellow Lynx Entertainment label mate, KiDi, that sometimes he does not know how to properly communicate to people.

A few weeks ago, KiDi revealed in an interview that sometimes Kuami Eugene speaks to him anyhow.

KiDi added that he has become accustomed to the communication of his label mate because they are “brothers”..

The ‘Open Gate’ hitmaker in response stated that he loves KiDi as he sees him as an elder brother. He added that reacting to what he says about him won’t bring any rifts as people might think.

“He is a brother, and he actually understands me more than the people out there because he is quite close to me and has every right I mean whatever we keep in our baskets or cobwebs, he comes to say it in the public “like this is what Kuami does.

Akuapem Poloo granted GHS 80,000 bail, pending appeal

Social media sensation, Rosemond Brown known in showbiz as Akuapem Poloo has been granted bail by the Criminal Court 2 Division of the High Court pending an appeal filed by her lawyer against her 90-day jail sentence.

She was granted bail in the sum of GHc80, 000 with two sureties.

In addition to the bail, she is to report to the case investigator every two weeks and is to deposit her passport with the registrar of the court.

Akuapem Poloo was handed a 90-day jail term for publishing obscene material and violating the dignity and integrity of her 7-year old son in a nude social media post.

Since the ruling was made, some people, especially showbiz personalities have condemned the punishment meted out to her and have also signed a petition to free her from jail.

Rosemond Brown, who was given the 90-day jail term following her conviction on charges of publication of obscene material and domestic violence pleaded guilty to all three charges on Wednesday and was convicted on her own plea by the court.

Her lawyer had made a mitigation plea to ask for a more lenient punishment.

Mr. Vortia maintained that the custodial sentence handed out was harsh.

“The mitigating factors in her favour are greater than the aggravating factors. When you consider this offence, it is not rape. It is not murder. It is a misdemeanour in which she could have been dealt with lightly,” he said.

The lawyer also questioned the lack of concern for Rosemond Brown’s seven-year-old son.

“Social welfare should have been bought in. We are protecting the child. The mother is gone, so who takes care of the child? Absolutely nothing was done to that effect,” Mr. Andrew said.

The judge, Christina Cann, bemoaned the spate of nudity on the Ghanaian social media space when she handed the sentence on Friday.

According to her, the punishment meted out to Rosemond Brown must serve as a deterrent to others.
