Etsifi 11 tigers brushed aside their counterparts from Odumase in the opening match of the 2021 Ajumako-Bisease Homecoming Gala on Sunday July 11 at Roman park.
Legend striker, Opoto scored the only goal of the match to give Coach Kofi Beer’s side a 1-0 win on the day and to place them in the summit of Group A with 3 points and a pole position to qualify for the semifinals of the tournament.
Addressing the media after the game, Kofi Beer, who was adjudged the best coach for the week expressed his joy for overcoming his noisy neighbours in what many termed as epic encounter. “I told you that we would win. We put in much effort in our preparations and it has paid off. I am happy for this victory. I believe that we have the men to win this trophy” he said.
In the other match, Station defeated Nyatsiadze 4-2 in penalty shootout after the game had ended 1-1 in the regulation time. The match which failed to produce a winner was decided by the lottery of penalties where Station showed their prowess. Station took the lead through Kwame Nkrumah’s strike but Nyatsiadze equalised through an own goal from Peekay to push the game to penalty. Station leads the Group B table with 2 points whiles Nyatsiadze took home 1 point to place second.
The tournament continues on Sunday July 18, when Bantoma takes on Station with Salem battling out with Odumase.
