Odumase Stars stunned Salem in match Day 2 of the Homecoming Gala in a 5 – 4 penalty win on Sunday, 18th July, 2021 at Roman Park to stand a chance of making it to the semifinals of the competition.
Salem took the lead in the first half of the game when a fine header from their defender to the back of the net ended the half with 1 – 0. They continued to dominate in the game and created several goalscoring opportunities but they failed to convert any to bury the game.
Odumase came back from the break strongly and took over the game. Their efforts paid off when a Salem defender was judged to have commited a foul in his own box. The referee did not hesitate to award a penalty to Odumase and Agogo calmly converted to make the scores 1 – 1.
When it was obvious that the match was heading to penalties, Salem replaced their goalkeeper Sarfo with Khalibi. This substitution was greeted by an uproar from a section of the spectators, who challenged Khalibi’s legibility to play for Salem having been known to reside in Bantoma.
Consequently, there was a temporary hold up of the game but calm returned when tempers were cooled down by leaders of the committee.
At the end of it all, Odumase goalkeeper proved too strong to beat in penalties when he save one penalty to win the game for his team.
