The Communication and Digitization Minister has received criticism from worried mobile network subscribers and Quick Loan customers for not apologizing to Ghanaians.

According to the group, Ursula Owusu-Ekuful ought to have apologized to Ghanaians for the turmoil surrounding the SIM registration process and her comment against Quick Loan debtors.

This is stated in a statement released by the Network in response to the Minister’s announcement of the deadline extension, which is signed by its convenor, Ras Mubarak, a former member of parliament for Kumbungu.

“We take notice with dissatisfaction of the announcement made today by the Minister of Communications regarding the disastrous SIM re-registration effort, in which she neglected to extend an apology to Ghanaians for the disruption related to the exercise.

“The Minister for Communications should be held accountable for the confusion and mayhem that have characterized the illicit sim-card registration effort,” the statement said.

The network also voiced worries about the SIM Registration App, which would cost GH₵5 and launch on Tuesday, August 2, 2022.

It characterized the development as unconstitutional because the imposition was made without the legislature’s approval.

A well-known house burglar in Sekondi has been grabbed again after allegedly

A well-known house burglar in Sekondi has been grabbed again after allegedly attempting to burgle a house in Kweikuma in the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis.

Abeiku, as he is known, was apprehended by some community members when he was trying to steal some electrical cables and china doors from a house on Monday morning, August 1.

He was tied to an electric pole and interrogated on his reasons for his actions to which he replied that he went there looking for firewood.

The burglar, an ex-convict, was jailed at a very young age and had been frequenting the prison cells since.

He has become a menace to the community where he lives.

In June 2022, the said burglar was suspected of ransacking a mechanical shop in Bakaekyir of which he was apprehended. His wrist was cut as a punishment by the apprehenders.

As if this action would deter him from embarking on another burglary, it did not.

Man kills brother's wife in Anambra over ownership of property

An indigene of Ogbunike in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mr George Okoye, has allegedly killed his younger brother’s wife, over a protracted tussle over the ownership of property.

Nigerian Tribune gathered that Okoye allegedly led his wife and children into his brother, Mr Emenike Okoye’s compound to beat him and his wife, Mrs Nkiru Okoye, who died out of the beating.

Emenike who however survived the incident sustained a broken hand, a fractured waist, and an injured eye from the beating, and was still recuperating in a hospital.

The sick man who spoke to journalists from his hospital bed narrated the incident that led to his 40-year-old wife’s death on July 19 with tears, saying he was only abandoned by the attackers because they thought he had died.

Though the suspect, Mr George Okoye has been arrested and is currently in police custody, the whereabouts of his wife, Mrs Uzonna Okoye, twins daughters and son, Somtochukwu Okoye who participated in the beating were still unknown.

Mr Emenike Okoye, narrating the story of his wife’s death said, “I was preparing for work that day, and my wife was preparing the children for school and to also travel home for a meeting in Abba, Njikoka Local Government Area, where she is from, when George and his wife, Uzonna and their son, Somtochukwu and twin daughters invaded my house around 7 am to 8 am.

“They overpowered us, beat us to stupor, and left. Later when my children have gone to school, they returned with some persons and dangerous weapons, including an axe.

“They dragged my wife outside the house, hit and killed her with axe and chair. She fell and died. When I resisted their move to drag me outside too, they broke my hand with an axe and dragged me outside; hitting me with the axe all over my body until I passed out.

“You can see the cut on my eyes. They left me, thinking that I was also dead. But God helped me to wake up later. I reported the incident to our local vigilante and they drove me to hospital.”

The father of five begged for help, and also for justice since his elder brother has been at loggerheads with the family, over the property for several years.

“George right from when our mother (Mrs Adaoba Okoye) was alive, said he is our landlord. He is not our firstborn, yet he claims ownership of the entire compound and always fights with all of us.

“I lived and worked overseas, but when the company where I was working folded, I returned home. We had our first three children overseas, and our last two here (in Ogbunike).

“My wife has nothing to do with this. Why kill her for nothing? After we returned home trouble started. The crisis led to the death of our mother and our eldest brother. He reported us to the kindred, and our property was shared, with him taking the larger part. I took mine without complaining. Later, he started laying claims to my house.

“He reported me to our kindred but it was settled to my favour. He disagreed and kept on troubling me. When I laid dwarf perimeter fence, he pulled it down, and even reported me to the kindred,” he lamented.

The Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Tochukwu Ikenga, said he was aware of the incident, stating that an investigation on the matter had long commenced, and was still ongoing.

The incident is reported to have happened on Monday afternoon over the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.

In a video on social media, the unknown man was seen lying in a pool of blood with a large stone near his right hand.

An eyewitness gave a detailed account to Myjoyonline of what led to the man losing his life.

According to him, the deceased was a pillion rider on a moving ‘Okada’ on one of the levels of the interchange when he was struck by the woman.

He said that while the victim fell off the motorbike the woman pounced on him and attacked him with the large stone.

The man died before bypassers arrived at the scene, the eyewitness added.

The woman was later apprehended by police after a mob had threatened to lynch her.

She was handcuffed and transported in the back of a police pickup truck, escorted by three officers and a man in civilian clothing.

Meanwhile, a car with the registration number GS3499-17 also encountered an accident at the same stretch, but the driver escaped unharmed.
